Giant mangosteen!
Reader Ed Smith (left) sent in this photo of a giant mangosteen, as found in Sumatra, Indonesia. Sumatra is known for giant things, like the rat that tried to eat Sherlock Holmes. But this takes the fruit-flavored cake. The more I look at this photo, the more I begin to suspect that it is not, in fact, a real piece of fruit but a model of some sort.
Interesting fact about the mangosteen: it is one of a number of fruits known as “superfruits” for their antioxidant properties. And like the pomegranite, you can eat its seeds. That totally kicks.
Alan replied:
I’m not eating it because they touched it.
